JM: And I’m gonna show you some simple home remedies that you can do at home so basically you don’t have to go back to the dry cleaner because, I think, you know, most people…
(audience applauds)
RR: Know how to attack it.
JM: Well, there you go.
RR: Alright, so where are we starting, what’s the first tip?
JM: Okay, so we’re gonna start off with the first, the first, by the way, there are three different stain groups. 95% of all stains come from three different groups. One, the first group is from the earth. That’s anything from the earth like fruit juices, colas, teas, red wines, okay, the second is from the body, which is protein, anything live matter from the body, all the icky stuff, like blood, milk, perspiration.
RR: Right.
JM: And the third is all oil matter. That’s mineral, vegetable and petroleum oils. That can be from hair gels to cooking oils, greases etc.
RR: Lipstick, make ups.
JM: Exactly! The first category is earth based. So we-re gonna take some coffee, which is, everyone’s got a coffee stain. And we’re going to stain it on this item, right here. But what we make to make the solution at home is gonna take two ounces of dish washing detergent, a de-greaser, pour it in, okay.
RR: Two ounces of vinegar, white vinegar.
JM: Two ounces of white vinegar and go ahead. And two ounces of water, okay.
RR: Simple enough.
JM: Now we’re just gonna mix it up, okay. And what you always do before you take, before you use this on anything, you always wanna test the solution in an inconspicuous area of the garment to make sure that the color doesn’t bleed and make sure it’s safe.
RR: Oh, smart.
JM: Because you can go right on the stain and all of a sudden the color starts bleeding.
RR: Right, like this little flap on the inside of the shirt or something.
JM: Yes, and you always wanna, with an earth based stain, you always wanna just rinse it with cold water just to see if it’s gonna come out, ’cause it’s fresh. We’re gonna take the formula and we’re gonna tamp it right on top of the stain, you can see it, right?
RR: And it passes like right through.
JM: Yeah, it passes right through.
RR: Wow.
JM: You can see that?
(audience applauds)
RR: That’s awesome.
JM: And there it goes, okay, number two we’re going to the protein based stains so we chose, since, you know we’re in the kitchen here, we chose meat juice blood. Okay so we take two tablespoons of water, a teaspoon of ammonia, a teaspoon of peroxide.
RR: Hydrogen peroxide?
JM: Hydrogen peroxide, and a teaspoon of detergent. Okay, again, alright, she’s mixing again.
RR: Sorry, I can’t not prep when I see ingredients.
JM: There you go, she’s prep, this is good. Okay, so what we’re gonna do is…
RR: This on here?
JM: Yeah, you can pour it on, yeah, and by the way, one of the other tips is if you ever have excess amount of the…
RR: Solution?
JM: The solution or no, no, the excess amount of stain just take it off, just take it off with a round object, a spoon or something.
RR: Gotcha, gotcha scrape the stain down first.
JM: And there you go, just tamp.
RR: Beautiful.
JM: And look at that, the last one, let me get this right.
RR: The last group.
JM: Last group, I just take a…
RR: This is the make-up, the oil based.
JM: Yeah, this is the ladies’ stuff or just oil based stuff. So, we’re gonna use this.
RR: A little lipstick.
JM: Wherever you want to, you wanna get the foundation.
RR: A little lipstick on the collar.
JM: Now, we always start with an ounce of de-greaser. And an ounce of, a tablespoon or an ounce of water, now to make this stronger if you need to, we add acetone, okay and not, but you can use…
RR: Nail polish remover.
JM: It works but you only, as long as you don’t have any acetate fabric.
RR: Right. It’ll melt it.
JM: Then you can use acetone. It’ll definitely melt it, you’ll see, so, okay. There you go, so now let me grab one of these.
RR: Can I spoon it on for you?
JM: You can spoon it on, look, she knows, this is good, she gets it.
RR: French service for your stains.
JM: There you go, okay. And there…
RR: Nice.
JM: You see it coming off.
RR: Wow, and that was bright pink lipstick.

JM: If you just let it sit there sometimes it works overtime.
RR: It’ll finish getting through.
JM: So you can’t always be in a rush to remove stains and then you wash it afterwards, you know, a mild detergent and a safe Clorox 2, a safety bleach.
RR: Oh, cool.
JM: Yeah.
